Inter Club Roller Racing 2007

The Inter-Club Roller Racing Challenge took place on Saturday 8th December 2007 at St John FisherHigh School,Newcastle under Lyme, Staffs. The two teams that lined up to do battle were the hosts Newcastle Track Cycling Association and Eastlands Velo from Manchester. The event consisted over a 21 race programme with a variety of events for riders aged between 9 years of age and 15.

With races contested one after the other, with no breaks, the excitement was none stop. The first 7 races saw the lead passing from one team to the other however the second third of the challenge saw Eastlands take a commanding lead as they impressed with some fantastic performances. The final 7 races were more even with the wins being shared one way then the other. It was fitting that Eastlands Velo won the final Team Sprint event to win the challenge. The final scores were Eastlands Velo 36 points with Newcastleon 27.

Individual wins for Newcastle came from Sophie Capewell (3) in the Under 10 girls, Jacob Kelly (2) in the Under 12 boys and Matthew Gray in the Under16 boys.

The Full Team competing for Newcastlewas, Archie Scott, Josh Davis, Sophie Capewell, Emily Capewell, Sally Birchall, Alex Webb, Jacob Kelly, Sassan Emadi, Sam Birchall, Leone Davis, Imogen Crooks, Alex Simmons and Matthew Gray.

All riders should be congratulated on the way they rode which was a credit to Newcastle Track Cycling Association and themselves. Organisers promise that the event will take place again next year along with a renewal of the track event to increase the number of events top two. A special thank you also goes to the officials who gave their time to organise and ensure that the event was so well run.
